I’ve had the honor of working on Comicpalooza’s branding, marketing and event materials for the past several years now. Comicpalooza is Texas’ largest pop culture festival and occurs annually at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
In 2018 they celebrated their 10th anniversary – coined Comicpalooza X. This special event called for an a limited-run anniversary mark to appear on merchandise, advertising and various communication materials.
Comicpalooza has become a summer tradition for Houstonians and comic book fans from across the United States. A comic convention so intertwined with Houston meant the city needed to play a role in the mark. The team behind the event wanted something ‘official looking’ but not too far off from their existing branding.
The result was a shift to a darker blue than their usual materials and a monochromatic representation of the Houston skyline with the X made by spotlights shining across the existing CP mark.
